Reb Elimelech of Lizhensk was a central early Chassidic leader whose seforim and talmidim shaped generations. Much of what became Polish and Galician chassidus runs through his beis midrash — the Chozeh of Lublin, Reb Mendele of Rymanów, the Maggid of Kozhnitz and Reb Dovid of Lelov were among his talmidim — which is why a visit here is so often the first stop of a longer route rather than a trip of its own.
