1.No source we could check records the Maharsham's matzevah as standing and identified today. The cemetery was torn up in the First World War, when the front line ran through Berezhany and trenches were dug among the graves and headstones shattered by artillery; it was patched up between the wars and then almost completely demolished in the Second. The ESJF survey of the site names only one ohel, that of Meshulam Shraga Faybush Halperin, and does not mention the Maharsham at all.
2.Be clear which Reb Sholom Schwadron you are visiting. This is the Maharsham, Gaon of Berezhany, 1835-1911 — not his great-grandson and namesake Reb Sholom Schwadron the Maggid of Yerushalayim, 1912-1997, who is buried on Har HaZeisim.
3.What is there: a fenced site of about 200 gravestones and roughly 50 fragments, somewhat overgrown with brush, with a Holocaust memorial on the ground. The oldest burials go back to the 1640s and the latest surviving stone is from 1937.
4.Ask the Berezhany municipality or the Ternopil Jewish community to check the site and point out the grave before you bring a group, and confirm the exact spot on the ground.

Born in 5595 (1835) in Galicia to Rabbi Moshe HaKohen Schwadron; rav of Potik and Yazlovets before coming to Berezhany, where he served more than thirty years and was reckoned one of the leading poskim of his generation — he is the great-grandfather of, and not the same man as, Reb Sholom Schwadron the Maggid of Yerushalayim (1912-1997), who is buried on Har HaZeisim.
